Digital Storytelling with Photostory 3

Prentice Hall Online Resources for High School Math
Participants will use Photostory 3 to create their own movie to use as an example for a lesson in their classroom. The presenter will share rubrics and worksheets used with the Studio Art class and their digital storytelling projects about their Ancestors. Images will be scanned and cropped using Photoshop and put into a jpeg format to be used in the Photostory 3 program. All images should be created or owned by the participant. This will circumvent any copyright laws and allow the final movie to be used in a podcast or posted on YouTube. Participants will add narration and music to their movie and save them as a windows media player file. The movie file will be large so participants should bring a flash drive to save their work. Discussion will include obstacles that might arise while gathering information for and creating the movie. Staff new to Photostory or without extensive experience may be interested in this workshop.

Presenters: Lizette Liebold and Kathleen Hahn
Target Audience: 6-12

Participants will receive an overview of Prentice Hall technology resources for high school math programs. This will include training in: Teacher Express, Exam View, online books and PowerPoint. Teachers will register with Prentice Hall and will view the online text and learn how to provide this same service to their students. The workshop will incorporate 21st century learning skills by helping teachers access online tools that will broaden the knowledge base of their students. This will allow the students to explore possibilities beyond what is being taught in the classroom setting.

Participants in this workshop will learn how to create engaging, appealing and winning stations that connect to a balanced literacy program. Actual materials will be provided for participants. Literacy stations allow students to take control of their learning and work independently, while teachers can work with small groups of learners in guided reading. Presenters will assist in creating stations with possible special education modifications to help get guided reading underway for all learners in the classroom. The conclusion of this workshop will include the “do’s” and “don’ts” of station building.
